Perfect Tractor
The Robertsons chose Massey Ferguson—twice—for their farm, and it has paid off.
Stephen Robertson had no problem selling his Massey Ferguson 1140 in 2007, except for having a bit of a bidding war on his hands. “I had one guy on the farm offering to buy it, and another guy on the phone at the same time,” he says.
That resale value gave him even more confidence in his next purchase, a Massey Ferguson 243 (right). The Robertsons do “a little bit of everything” with it, and it certainly handles the work. They’re most impressed, though, with its safety and reliability. “This is a hilly piece of property,” says Stephen of his 40-acre farm.
The tractor’s wide footprint allows Stephen and Dawn to “go anywhere with it,” he says, and to service the hillside pastures that accommodate their rotation plan. In 15 years on the farm, “Masseys are the only tractors we’ve ever owned,” says Dawn. “It really is the perfect tractor for a small farm,” adds Stephen.
