The Perfect Combination: Hesston Balers and Massey Ferguson Tractors
Peter Friesen believes his Hesston by Massey Ferguson Model 2270XD balers and his Massey Ferguson 7624 tractors make a terrific team.
“Because of the increased capacity of the 2270XD balers, and the speed and comfort of the Massey Ferguson tractors, we’re able to do with two balers what we used to do with three,” Peter Friesen says.
“I know that without the throughput that these balers have and the CVT transmission on the tractors, we wouldn’t get near as much done as we do. The Dyna-VT lets us select the exact speed we need to match ground speed with the windrow size and baler pickup speed to attain the ideal flake size.”
“With the XD version of the 2270, we’ve also pushed the weight of straw bales up to 1,350 pounds,” Franz adds. “However, we generally keep them around 1,100 pounds. On alfalfa, you can make the bales about as heavy as you want, which means denser bales and fewer bales to handle.”
In addition to the pairing of their tractors and balers, Peter and Franz praise the service and support they get from Livingston Machinery, their AGCO® dealer in Fairview, Oklahoma. “If we need parts, all we have to do is call them and they’ll have it shipped here overnight,” Peter relates. “And if somebody is headed up this way, they’ll call ahead of time to see if there is anything we need.
“I like, too, that they’ve given us their mechanics’ personal phone numbers. We try not to take advantage of it, but, quite often, there are things we can fix ourselves with just a little bit of guidance or advice,” he adds, noting that they also had Livingston go through all their balers this past winter to check for wear and precise adjustment. “As a result, we’re always ready to go when the crop is ready.”
